Behind the Scenes with Tatami: Judo United Hosts Exclusive Webinar for the Film’s LA Premiere

Judo United was proud to host a special webinar this past weekend in celebration of the upcoming premiere of Tatami, an award-winning Judo-centered film making its U.S. theatrical debut in Los Angeles on June 20th. This online event brought together over 25 Judo clubs from across California, all united by a shared mission: to support the growth of Judo through powerful storytelling on the big screen.

An Insiders Look at "Tatami" with Judo United

Hosted by Chuck Jefferson, founder of Judo United, the webinar featured an incredible lineup of insiders who brought Tatami to life. We were honored to speak with Arienne Mandi, the film’s lead actress, who shared her journey into the world of Judo and what it meant to step into such a physically and emotionally demanding role. Philippe Morotti, the film’s Judo coach, offered behind-the-scenes insights into the intense training regimen required to prepare Arienne for authenticity on the tatami.

Adding a legendary touch was Neil Adams, globally known as “The Voice of Judo.” Neil discussed his narration work and how he and his wife Niki Adams collaborated to create a powerful audio experience that resonates deeply with Judoka. Hearing that iconic voice throughout the film is sure to stir emotion and pride in Judo players everywhere.

We also extend heartfelt thanks to Scott Gelb and Mo Ghasemi, who joined the panel to share personal reflections on the film's themes of bravery, resilience, and freedom. We would also like to recognize Nanka Yudanshakai president Keith Chu for his support!

This webinar was made possible thanks to Tamar Simon of Mean Streets Management and Judo United, who organized the panel and ensured everything ran smoothly.

Tatami isn’t just a film—it’s a powerful story of human courage told through the lens of Judo. Tickets are selling fast for opening weekend in Los Angeles, so check your local listings and show your support. Let’s continue to elevate our sport—on the mat and on the screen.
