The second annual San Jose Training Camp by Judo United was nothing short of a world-class experience. Packed with top talent and big energy, the weekend brought together over 200 athletes and coaches for an intensive schedule featuring 16 hours of Judo across two exciting days.
With participants representing 43 dojos from 5 different states, the energy and diversity on the mat were incredible. The camp was held at Kathleen MacDonald High School in San Jose, where over 6,000 square feet of mat space provided the perfect environment for training, learning, and leveling up.
Instruction was top-tier, with sessions tailored for both kids and teens/adults. The youth sessions were led by a stellar team including Lelani Akiyama, Hannah Tsutsui, and Megumi Ishikawa, who delivered dynamic, engaging instruction that inspired the next generation of Judoka.
The teen and adult sessions were powered by high-level technique and intense randori. SJSU coaching staff Kosuke Tanaka and Toni Lettner led the way, joined by special guest Megumi Ishikawa, who made the trip from Chicago to bring her international experience to the mat. Together, they created a perfect blend of technical precision and competitive spirit.
Off the mat, coaches and parents were treated to an outstanding seminar on performance support with Eitan Gelber. Covering everything from athlete health to recovery strategies, Eitan shared practical tools and insights for helping Judoka perform at their best.
A huge thank-you goes out to the strong contingent from Southern California, as well as the many out-of-state athletes who made the journey to San Jose. Your presence helped elevate the entire experience.
This camp showcased exactly what Judo United is all about—bringing the community together through unforgettable events that raise the level of Judo in the U.S. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
