Olympic Champion Christa Deguchi Kicks Off California Tour with San Jose Seminar

On April 6th, 2024, Judo United, in partnership with Nanka Judo and Judo Canada, proudly welcomed 2024 Olympic Champion Christa Deguchi to San Jose, California, for the first stop on her 10-day Judo tour across the state.

Coming straight from her home in Japan, Christa brought not only her gold medal energy but also a deep passion for sharing her knowledge and experience with the Judo community. With nearly 100 practitioners in attendance representing 19 Judo Clubs at CJ Judo in San Jose CA, the seminar was a special opportunity for judoka of all ages to learn directly from one of the best in the world.

Two Sessions of World-Class Judo

Over the course of two packed sessions spanning more than four hours, Christa led athletes through her signature techniques and strategies—the very tools that helped her reach Olympic Gold in Paris 2024. Whether it was grip fighting, throws, pins, or her tactical mindset, every moment was filled with insights from an athlete who has competed and won at the highest levels.

A Glimpse Behind the Champion

Beyond the throws and drills, attendees also had a chance to connect with Christa on a personal level. During a special Q&A session, she shared her journey in Judo, which began at just three years old. A story that began as a 3 year old girl playing on the mat in Japan, to later representing Canada and standing atop the Olympic podium in 2024—Christa’s story inspired everyone in the room.
